Stockholm / Berlin, January 25, 2019. Wine in Black, one of the leading online shops for high-quality wines in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland, has been acquired by the Swedish Viva Group, one of the largest wine importers in Scandinavia. The Viva Group intends to further strengthen its growth course with the Berlin-based retailer's e-commerce capabilities, while Wine in Black will benefit from the Swedish supplier's global supplier relationships. The acquisition took place in the 4th quarter of 2018 and will be formally completed in the next few weeks.
Emil Sallnäs, Managing Partner of Viva Group: "Wine in Black has earned a unique position in some of Europe's largest and most attractive premium wine markets. We look forward to further accelerating the growth of Wine in Black with the Wine in Black team in Berlin and our teams in Scandinavia."
Wine in Black was founded in 2011. Founder and Managing Director Stephan Linden will leave the company after a transitional phase in mid-2019 to devote himself to new entrepreneurial projects. Wine in Black is managed by Christian Fricke, who joined Wine in Black as Managing Director in February 2018, and continues to operate independently.
Stephan Linden: "As a start-up in a highly competitive market, we were fortunate enough to win such experienced and successful venture capitalists as Project A, e.ventures, btov, Black River Ventures, and others. After developing Wine in Black from zero to eight-figure annual sales, now is the perfect time to start the next growth phase of Wine in Black with a strategic partner. The Swedish Viva Group has convinced us with its very entrepreneurial approach, global network and deep understanding of the market and will help Christian and the management team lead Wine in Black to the next level."
