Minodes Launches as First Comprehensive Platform for In-store Analytics and Marketing for European Retailers

Berlin, March 27th 2014. Minodes, a startup led by former Rocket Internet, McKinsey and OC&C executives, emerges from stealth with today’s announcement of its offline analytics, marketing and in-store optimisation platform that is available to retailers and location owners. The company also announced completion of an undisclosed 7-digit Series A round of financing led by Project A Ventures and Berlin Technologie Holding together with other investors.

Minodes offers a comprehensive SaaS platform that enables retailers to maximize the potential of their locations. “We want to help our clients to fully understand their customers, drive sales and take retail experiences to the next level. So we go beyond a ‘Google Analytics for Offline’ and offer a product which delivers answers that are always actionable and tailored to the client’s industry,” says founder Christian Eggert who was previously responsible for global venture development and mobile strategy at Rocket Internet where he launched multiple startups. Alexander Koeth (formerly OC&C) and CEO Tim Wegner (formerly McKinsey) complement the founding team. Both previously worked in senior positions consulting leading retail clients all over Europe.

The startup unites in-store analytics, marketing campaigns and direct marketing services and aims to be the single partner for the retail’s future. The platform consists of complementary services that build on each other. Through the base layer, which is labeled ‘Answers’, retailers are able to measure customer in-store behavior to get actionable data and recommendations. With help of ‘Campaigns’ they can understand the impact and efficiency of marketing campaigns while the ‘Interactions’ module enables them to create mobile proximity marketing experiences with iBeacon technology. To enable Minodes’ services, the startup uses its hardware to gather anonymized WiFi data amongst other data sources.

The solution is already in use at the leading retailers in Germany across different segments, including consumer electronics, beauty products, home accessories, fashion, DIY, as well as shopping malls and automotive. “Minodes’ mission to combine the best from both traditional retail and the data-driven online world showed great success and value to existing customers,” says Joern-Carlos Kuntze, Managing Partner at BTH. „We are excited to be on this journey together with an outstanding team and to support with investment and operational know how,” adds Mark Hartmann, Venture Partner at Project A Ventures.
