Job description

About the Job

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager (m/f/d) to join one of our portfolio companies and lead its logistics foundations, as well as scaling their technology as the organisation grows.

In your day-to-day work, you’ll focus on ensuring that clients receive exceptional experiences, and get the opportunity to contribute to various growth projects.

Join our portfolio company: A British warehouse-to-doorstep delivery platform focused on scaling and adapting existing LogisticsTech to the latest e-commerce trends. The startup already helps leading retailers across the UK deliver goods to customers using an innovative network that guarantees a faster, more affordable, and environmental alternative compared to existing solutions.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead our portfolio’s engineering efforts across routing, operational efficiency, core services and API.
  • Scale the logistics foundations in tandem with business growth, starting from a single team and evolving into an organisation of teams.
  • Take cross-functional ownership of critical business outcomes, such as company-wide efficiency metrics.
  • Partner closely with leaders across the business, not just in technology.
  • Spend time in the field gaining a visceral understanding of how couriers and end customers experience our portfolio’s technology.
  • Guide critical decisions affecting the company’s technical infrastructure.
  • Foster a culture of technical and operational excellence.

Your Profile

  • A history of achievement  in recruiting, retaining, and developing engineers of exceptional ability, within high-performing organisations (minimum 3 years).
  • Pride in the technology delivered by the team(s) you’ve led and the tangible impact it has had on your business and its users.
  • Enjoyment in the transition to management, while remaining deeply passionate about (and skilled at) building technology.
  • Curiosity for all aspects of our Venture’s business, and excitement to work together with leaders across operations, finance, and commercial functions.
  • Deep empathy for the humans you build technology for, including customers, partners, and your fellow colleagues. You seek out the chance to hear directly from them and go out of your way to incorporate their feedback into your work.
  • Experience as a startup founder or in early stage teams is a strong plus
  • You appreciate and exercise clear communication, active listening, and intentional collaboration in English.

Please note that we are looking for support in the LONDON office of our portfolio company.

Benefits and Perks

  • Generous equity package
  • Free membership of the gym in our co-working space
  • Play a key role in shaping the future of LogisticsTech and e-commerce
  • Experience a culture of learning and growth where you're encouraged to take ownership from day one
  • Thrive in an inspiring, creative, and diverse environment and work with an international team of brilliant colleagues
  • Hybrid working; we're based in London near Old Street tube station
  • Plenty of team socials and events - from pottery painting to life-size Monopoly and escape rooms!
  • Be a part of the Project A family network
